Veritas NetBackup Veritas NetBackup

Integrate Veritas NetBackup to retrieve backup clients, jobs, and policies from your NetBackup platform

The Veritas NetBackup connector allows you to retrieve backup clients, job statuses, and protection policies from your NetBackup primary server directly into OverView for a consolidated view of your backup coverage.

Objective

The Veritas NetBackup connector retrieves the following information:

  • Backup clients and protected hosts
  • Backup job statuses (success — partial successes included — and failure)
  • Protection policies and schedules
  • Backup catalog and recovery points

Prerequisites

  • Access to the NetBackup Web UI on the primary server
  • A NetBackup user account with at minimum read access to Configuration, Jobs, and Catalog
  • Network access from the OverView OutPost to the primary server

Information to provide in OverView

FieldDescription
API URLURL of your NetBackup primary server, e.g. https://<primary-server>(:1556)
API KeyAPI key generated in the NetBackup Web UI (see procedure below)

Parameters

These parameters are optional. Leave them at their default value unless you have a specific reason to change them.

ParameterDescriptionDefault

Procedure

Create an API Key in NetBackup

  1. Sign in to the NetBackup Web UI on your primary server.
  2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the interface.
  3. Select Add API key.
  4. Configure the API key settings:
    • Expiry: set an expiry date consistent with your organization's rotation policy
    • Description: enter a meaningful name such as oversoc-integration
  5. Click Add.
  6. Copy the generated API key and store it securely — it will not be shown again.
  7. Enter this API key in the API Key field in OverView.

Security Best Practices

  • Use a dedicated service account for the OverView integration
  • Grant read-only permissions — OverView only needs to read inventory, job, and policy data
  • Rotate the API key regularly according to your organization's security policy
Alternative: file import through DropPoint

The API access described above is the recommended method for this connector. Where it is not available (a segregated network, a version or licence without API, an export you already produce), OverView accepts file exports, to be uploaded to the bucket dedicated to NetBackup.

Where do the files go?

Bucket : s3://netbackup/

Example : s3://netbackup/export.csv

The procedure is described in the OverView DropPoint guide: generating credentials, configuring the client, then sending files from the OverView web interface, the AWS CLI or an SDK. Its examples come pre-filled with this bucket when you follow this link.
