Import your Windows updates status and machine inventory from WSUS

The WSUS connector allows you to import Windows update status, machine inventory and patch compliance from your Windows Server Update Services server.

Objective

The WSUS connector allows you to import the following information:

  • Windows updates status (installed and pending)
  • Inventory of machines managed by WSUS
  • Patch compliance and updates

Prerequisites

  • Access to WSUS server with export rights
  • Active Windows Server Update Services server

Import modes

This connector works in file import mode. OverSOC accepts the following formats:

  • CSV: tabular export from WSUS
  • JSON: structured export from WSUS

Procedure

Export data from WSUS

  1. Log in to the WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) console.
  2. Go to Computers for machine inventory.
  3. Select machines or groups to export.
  4. Click Export and choose the CSV or JSON format.
  5. For updates status, go to Updates and use the export.
  6. Download the export file.

Import into OverSOC

  1. In OverSOC, go to Data Sources Settings > Sources.
  2. Select Windows Server Update Services and click Configure.
  3. Choose the CSV Import or JSON Import mode according to your export format.
  4. Import your export file.
  5. Click Save Configuration.

Synchronization frequency

Exports can be scheduled regularly via:

  • Manual weekly export
  • Integration with Windows scheduler for automatic export
  • Periodic PowerShell export script
